1 - Reflexive pronouns

We use a reflexive pronoun:

• as a direct object when the object is the same as the subject of the verb:

I am teaching myself to play the piano.

We can use a reflexive pronoun as direct object with most transitive verbs, but these are the most common:

Singular:	myself - yourself - himself - herself - itself
Plural:	ourselves - yourselves - themselves

Be careful with that knife. You might cut yourself.

hurt	introduce	kill	prepare	satisfy	teach

Fixed expressions with -self / -selves Do you know all of the following expressions? They all make use of an imperative for instructions/suggestions where the subject is implied. Enjoy yourselves! ( said to friends / relations when they are leaving you) Behave yourselves! ( said to children when they are leaving you) Help yourself! ( said to a guest when you are offering him/her food or drink or other facilities in your home) Come in. Make yourself at home! ( said when a guest arrives at your house) Take care of yourself (used when saying goodbye to someone) Now, let's put your knowledge of reflexive pronouns to work.  Watch the following movie segment and let's do the exercises below it.  Start the movie at 39m00s m and stop it at 42m10s 1. 2 - Relative Pronouns

who: when we talk about people

which: when we talk about things

whose: instead of his/her or their

We also use that for who/which.
